What is the EB-1A Visa?
The EB-1A visa is the premier employment-based, first-preference (EB-1) immigrant visa category. It’s for individuals who show extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics. The key is “sustained national or international acclaim” and recognized achievements in your field.
This green card category offers significant advantages:
- Generally Current Visa Bulletin Dates: For most countries, the EB-1 category often has current visa availability. This translates to less waiting time compared to other employment-based categories.
- Self-Petitioning Allowed: You can file the petition yourself. This means you don’t need a U.S. employer to sponsor you, offering immense career flexibility.
- No Labor Certification Required: We waive the lengthy and often complex PERM Labor Certification process. This significantly shortens your path to permanent residency.

Do You Qualify for the EB-1A Green Card?
AUSCIS defines “extraordinary ability” as a level of expertise showing you are “one of that small percentage who have risen to the very top of the field of endeavor.”
You must demonstrate your extraordinary ability in one of two ways:
Receiving a Major International Award
Have you received a major, internationally recognized award? This could be a Nobel Prize, Olympic Medal, Pulitzer Prize, or an Academy Award. Such an award can qualify you directly.
